Players will mark their calendars for the long-awaited return to Cvstodia in a brand new adventure for the side-scrolling platformer Blasphemous 2. The news was announced by developer The Game Kitchen and their publisher, Team17, in which they discussed details for the upcoming paid expansion, Mea Culpa, which will launch alongside a free update for the base game.
Furthermore, they've revealed details regarding the pricing and release date for Blasphemous 2's Mea Culpa DLC, scheduled for an October 2024 launch. Lastly, they gave us an overview of what to expect from the next free update, True Torment, which will introduce the much-needed New Game Plus (NG+) mode at launch.
Blasphemous 2's upcoming paid expansion, Mea Culpa, eyes an epic return to Cvstodia of which much of the expansion's story centers on a fabled lost sword, the Mea Culpa, which fans of the first Blasphemous game will call back to it being brandished by The Penitent One. This paid expansion, which is priced at $11.99 / £11.99 / €11.99 at launch, features a new story to explore along with new content such as the following:
- Four new quests
- Two new zones and challenging bosses
- New DLC achievements
- New alternate ending for The Penitent One
- A new weapon
- New Argent board figures, prayers , and rosary beads
As stated earlier, the Mea Culpa expansion for Blasphemous 2 releases simultaneously with the True Torment free update for the game. The free update and paid expansion launches for PC via the Epic Games Store, GOG and Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles on 31st October 2024 brings new gameplay content and features, including the following listed below:
- Zone expansions for the Basilica of Ancient Faces, Choir of Thorns, and the Sunken Cathedral, which add new challenges
- New "connecting zones" to make traversal between them more efficient
- The Labyrinth of Tides challenge
- New enemies
