Fans of the much-anticipated action-adventure game Beyond Good & Evil 2 have grown weary as we've not heard anything from French developer and publisher Ubisoft within the last year. Based on the information available online, the game was first announced in 2008 at the Ubidays conference, of which an update in 2016 from game director Michel Ancel was posted to Instagram, and a trailer debuted at E3 2017.
While Ancel has since departed from Ubisoft in 2020, and the sudden passing of Creative Director Emile Morel last year, there has been no mention of the forthcoming sequel aside from the game's 20th Anniversary Edition remaster and an animated film based on the video game to be produced by Netflix, That all changed recently as Ubisoft has found its new Creative Director to help the development team carry the torch left behind Morel as production moves forward.
Game designer and Ubisoft's VP of Global Creative Fawzi Mesmar posted to his LinkedIn profile, officially announcing his new post, that he has "joined Beyond Good & Evil 2 as Creative Director." He continued adding that he has been working with those peeps for years now on this ambitious game and witnessed their talent firsthand," concluding that he's "standing on the shoulders of creative giants that have supported the team before me" and looks forward "to continuing to craft a game that is truly unique for players to enjoy."
The French developer and publisher has since confirmed Mesmar's new job title, as revealed in his LinkedIn post, in an official statement provided to Kotaku on 23rd October 2024, stating that “With more than 20 years as an award-winning game designer and creative director, he’s been instrumental in the successful launch of over 20 video games. Mesmar previously collaborated with the Beyond Good & Evil 2 team as VP of Editorial," which now "in his new role, he’s focused on continuing to build upon the vision set forth by our late friend and colleague, Emile Morel.”
