Best Soulcalibur VI characters from Ivy to Cervantes

Possessing one of the best line-ups of any fighter, we rundown our favourite Soulcalibur VI characters who have become staples of our matches.

Most fighting games focus on hand-to-hand combat, but the Soulcalibur franchise is a whole different beast. Soulcalibur boasts weapon-to-face combat, with blistering speed and satisfying moves.

This is, in part, what allows the characters to stand out from the crowd so much with their unique weapons. In the spirit of symmetry, we take on the monumental task of picking just six top Soulcalibur VI characters that we like the most.

Voldo

Voldo is the ultra-creepy staple of the franchise, first appearing in Soul Edge in 1995. Dubbed "The Guardian of The Vault", Voldo's movements remain some of the most unpredictable of all Soulcalibur VI characters. He is armed with his signature Katar, as well as Manas and Ayus in Soulcalibur VI. However, it is his unique, self-taught fighting style that makes him our favourite character.

Voldo has this contortionist-style of fighting that no other character can match. Combine this with strong throws and his ability to take a low stance, his enemies rarely know what to expect.

Then you also have those brutal slashes that are akin to animal-like attack patterns. While Voldo might not be the strongest of the Soulcalibur VI characters, he certainly is the most frightening.

Geralt of Rivia

"Toss a coin to your Witcher!" Now that the song from the Netflix series The Witcher is adequately stuck in your head, we can talk about Geralt of Rivia.

Geralt steps onto the "Stage of History", taking a break from his regular monster-hunting escapades. This iconic character needs no introduction for most gamers and feels like the perfect crossover choice from Bandai Namco.

In terms of gameplay, Geralt is considered one of the top Soulcalibur VI characters. His moveset is easy to learn, he is fast, and he can dodge enemy attacks with ease.

Throw in his Witcher signs, and you have a character with a robust toolkit to dispose of any foe. Best of all, the White Wolf's personality and fighting style are captured perfectly, making him an easy choice as one of our favourites.

Taki

Taki has appeared in nearly every game in the franchise and from her first iteration to Soulcalibur VI, she remains one of our favourites. Featuring lightning-fast attacks and combos, combined with the ability to deal chip damage even when an enemy guards, this makes her a fierce character to face.

In Soulcalibur VI, Taki returns to the arena with her iconic swords, Rekki-Maru and Mekki-Maru. If you enjoy a character with high agility and speed, then Taki is your go-to gal.

She is an entirely offensive character. If an opponent lets their guard down for even a second, she can and will capitalize with fast and brutal combos.

Nightmare

Ruthless, violent, and frightening. That's the only way we can describe the iconic antagonist of the franchise.

The Azure Knight can overwhelm any opponent with his sheer power and ferocity. As the wielder and the living incarnation of the Soul Edge, he is constantly in search of more souls to feed the infamous weapon.

Fighting against Nightmare will almost always put the opposition player in a defensive position, trying to avoid punishing blows at all cost. He has medium to long-range attacks and is fast on his feet to boot.

Playing Nightmare gives you that sense of overwhelming power. It comes as no surprise that Nightmare is considered one of the most powerful characters in Soulcalibur VI, and one of the most daunting opponents to face.

Ivy

Nicknamed "Coiling Contempt", Isabella "Ivy" Valentine is armed with a whip-sword weapon called Ivy Blade. She can dish out damage quickly and effectively.

Her attack range is fantastic but her moveset is quite difficult to learn. When you've mastered playing Ivy and the intricacies of her moveset, there are very few characters that can compete with her.

As fast as she is deadly, Ivy can pull off some excellent chaining combos, get out of sticky situations, and lockdown her opponents.

She is a complex Soulcalibur VI character and one of our favourites. This is thanks to her high skill ceiling and her one-of-a-kind attitude.

Cervantes

Cervantes Soulcalibur VI

No Soulcalibur VI favourite character list would be complete without the undead pirate Cervantes. He is without a doubt one of the most diverse characters in the game.

Cervantes boasts a combination of long-range and close-range attacks, making him a great all-rounder. Throw in a teleportation skill to surprise your foes, as well as an excellent wall game, and you've got the complete package.

Cervantes has been a staple of the franchise since its inception. In Soulcalibur VI, he wields two swords, Acheron and Nirvana, with his unique "memories of the Soul Edge'' fighting style.

If you love going on the offensive and pushing your enemies into a wall, he might be the perfect character for you. Furthermore, his opponents struggle to read his attacks, which is just another point in Cervantes' favour.

Final Thoughts

Not all of our favourite Soulcalibur VI characters are the best for top-level competitive play, but every single one of them is worthy of this list. Be it due to their awesome personalities, fighting styles, or legendary status. Everyone has their own personal favourites to play with. However, Voldo, Geralt of Rivia, Taki, Ivy, Nightmare, and Cervantes are definitely our favourites.
