The 2025 VCT season has just begun, yet multiple teams have already undergone sudden roster changes after playing only a few Kickoff matches. In most cases, these changes are attributed to team synergy and communication issues.

While some teams are still searching for their core identity, Jawgemo, the star North American duelist, made a surprising move during Offseason by leaving Evil Geniuses to join G2 Esports—an Ascension team—despite receiving multiple offers from partnered teams in the region. One of the reasons he cited for this decision was his better synergy with G2’s players.

I asked Jawgemo about his thoughts on the synergy issues causing roster instability in other teams, while G2 continues to thrive with strong teamplay.

"I would say that building trust with your teammates from the start is the most important thing. You need confidence in the team you're joining. I chose G2 specifically because of the existing core and the opportunity to learn with them daily—understanding how they prepare, execute, and perform in matches. That’s what I was looking for," Jawgemo said during the Masters Bangkok pre-event press conference.

"For teams that are rebuilding, trusting the process set by the coaches and staff is crucial. I don’t think people give enough credit to the management and support staff who handle behind-the-scenes work that keeps everything running smoothly. If you don’t trust your coach or IGL, it’s hard to succeed. That’s why you see teams falling apart mid-season, like what we’re seeing now. Teams need to figure out why they’re together and how they can reach their full potential."

G2 won the Americas Kickoff 2025, becoming the first Ascension team to lift a VCT trophy, while securing their spot at Masters Bangkok as the region’s first seed. They will face Trace Esports on February 21 and the match will be streamed live on Valorant Champions Tour’s official YouTube and Twitch channels.
