A task that most all Valheim players will eventually take on is attempting to find Haldor the Merchant.
This NPC is located in a random area within the Black Forest and sells you several items that you can’t acquire anywhere else. Tools like a belt to increase your carry weight and a crafting resource that helps you build one of the strongest weapons in the game can all be purchased at Haldor’s shop.
However, once you find the Merchant, you’ll discover that you can sell items to him as well. Things like Amber, Amber Pearls and Rubies are what he’s looking for in exchange for coins so you can buy his merchandise.
Although, finding these sellable items isn’t the easiest thing to do. Luckily, there are a few surefire places you can look.

Finding valuable items in Valheim
Haldor is one of the few NPCs in Valheim (Picture: Iron Gate)
To start, you really need to explore the entire Valheim map. At some point, you’ll come across empty houses with a chest inside that will usually contain some valuables. However, this isn’t the most efficient method of obtaining the items.
Instead, you need to search for burial tombs in the Black Forest and Sunken Crypts in the Swamp. Both of these underground locations are guaranteed to hold at least some valuables that you can then sell to Haldor.
If you’re going to pick between the two though, the Sunken Crypts are larger and tend to hold more rooms that can contain Amber Pearls or Rubies. Also, there are more Crypts than tombs so it’s simply the better option overall.
Although, if you go looking for tombs, you could also happen to come across Haldor’s location, which isn’t marked on the map until you get near it. So there are merits to both methods but each will certainly reward you with some valuable items.
