One of the new items included with the Valheim Hearth and Home update is the spice rack.
This is one of the stranger additions with the update but players still welcome it nonetheless, as it adds some variety to players’ homes and bases. It also allows players to show off some of their ingredients they’ve found along their journey instead of just sticking them inside of a chest for no one to see.
Of course, before players can start displaying their spices, they need to know how to make one and where they can place it in Valheim.
Making a Spice Rack in Valheim
The first thing you need to know is the spice rack’s crafting recipe.
- 5 Mushrooms
- 3 Turnip
- 3 Thistle
- 3 Dandelion
- 2 Carrots
As you can see, there are no actual resources needed for the rack, only materials that can be found in various parts of the world. Carrots and turnips are found through seeds which are then planted for you to harvest. These seeds can be found throughout the Black Forest mainly.
As for the dandelions, thistle and mushrooms, you’ll need to be on the lookout in the Meadows and Black Forest for these plants. There are no set spawns for them, so you need to get lucky and make sure you’re diligent when trekking through the biomes.
Finally, when you have all of the ingredients, you can craft the spice rack in range of a cauldron. Naturally, you’ll want the spice rack to be near your cauldron anyway, as it makes sense from a practical standpoint.
The biggest aspect you need to remember when placing the spice rack is that it needs to be hanging from something. You can add some wood or stone planks over your cauldron or on a nearby wall to make things easy but you can also get creative with the placement.

If you receive an “invalid placement” message when trying to place the spice rack, then you’re not hanging it correctly. You need to make sure it has room beneath it and that it’s hanging from a singular object.
That’s all there is to making and placing a spice rack in Valheim.
