Squanch Games' first-person shooter, High on Life, is the latest video game to receive a television adaptation. The news was broken by Deadline this week that the development of the animated series will be a collaboration between the developer, Striker Entertainment, and production company Alternate Side Productions per Deadline's reporting.

Emmy Award-winning actor JB Smoove is revealed to be producing the project with his company, Alternate Side, in which he provided his voice to the video game, but there is no word if he'll reprise his role. He'll be producing the project alongside Striker Entertainment's Mandy Bardisbanian, Russell Binder, and the game's developer, which narrative director Alec Robbins has also joined.

In a statement provided to Deadline, Smoove stated that when he first signed on to the video game and asked what his character would look like, "They told me that I would be a fish that shoots…which makes perfect sense to me! As a Vegan I feel a fish should have the right to defend itself! I mean, right?!"

He added, "And now that I'm partnered with Squanch Games and Striker Entertainment to bring the hilarious High On Life to series, it feels like it was inevitable! They invited me to join them in the gaming universe, and now I'm helping them move into the TV world! It's a case of a game-recognizing game!"

High on Life, released in December 2022 for consoles and PC, garnered mixed reviews for its humor and bizarre technical issues experienced at launch despite amassing over 7.5 million players since its release. The game received a post-launch DLC, High on Knife, released almost one year later in October 2023, incorporated action-adventure and Metroidvania components, and became one of the biggest game releases for the Xbox Game Pass service.

No word if the game's voice acting cast is set to return for the animated series; however, Deadline speculates that "there's a good chance" Smoove may reprise his role as Gus. Additionally, it's unclear which network or streaming service will premiere the series for which we'll update this news story once information has been provided.
