Developer CD Projekt RED has officially revealed The Witcher 4 to the world at The Game Awards, and it's equal parts thrilling and brutal. You've probably seen the discussions about the reveal trailer already, but just in case you didn't know, The Witcher 4's protagonist is Ciri instead of Geralt of Rivia, and the way CDPR introduced Ciri as the main character was just brilliant.
To quote Ciri: "There Are No Gods Here, Only Monsters," and that theme rings true throughout the reveal trailer, where Ciri enters a town and decides to intervene in their ritual sacrifice.
Game Director of The Witcher 4, Sebastian Kalemba, said in a press release that:
We're kicking off a brand-new Witcher saga, this time with Ciri as the heart of the story! It feels so good to finally be able to say those words — for the longest time we knew that we wanted Ciri to be the protagonist of The Witcher IV; it just felt natural to us and we believe that Ciri deserves it. In this game we want to explore what it means to truly become a witcher by following Ciri on her Path. This trailer is a taste of both that, and just how dark and grounded the world of The Witcher can be.
The trailer is pre-rendered in a custom build of Unreal Engine 5 on an unannounced NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU. After all, The Witcher 4 will be built on Unreal Engine 5 instead of the RED Engine.

The Witcher 4 is the "most immersive and ambitious" open-world Witcher game CDPR has ever attempted. A few weeks before the reveal, the developers confirmed that it had entered full-scale production.
Several fight scenes can make you gasp, and Ciri's Witcher contract, featured in the trailer, leaves her with difficult decisions. The trailer is brutal and dark and packs a massive emotional punch, dealing with generational prejudices and superstitions.
Check out the reveal trailer for The Witcher 4 below, with six minutes of action. Keep in mind there are no actual gameplay clips and that this is just a self-contained Witcher story to introduce Ciri as the main protagonist, and not a huge story reveal for The Witcher 4!
