Polish developer CD Projekt RED has had a productive 2024 as they continued to support Cyberpunk 2077, evident in the latest patch, and update players on the development of several announced projects being worked on. With the teams slowly moving away from Cyberpunk 2077 to work on upcoming and in-development projects like Project Sirius, Orion, and Polaris, we got an update on the latter project as Polaris was unveiled at The Game Awards as The Witcher 4.
CDPR debuted a Cinematic Reveal Trailer for the upcoming fantasy RPG The Witcher 4, with the game's new adventure led by Ciri as its protagonist. This does make one of The Witcher 3's endings somewhat canon; Witcher fans had noted something unfamiliar with Ciri's voice during the aforementioned trailer, which the developer has made a statement about.
Fans have noted that The Witcher 4's protagonist, Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon, or Ciri's English voice, sounded quite different from what we've previously heard in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. As many had tried scouring the internet for answers on whether Ciri's The Witcher 3 voice actress Jo Wyatt is set to reprise her role in The Witcher 4, CDPR has provided a statement.
The Polish devs provided a comment to TheGamer this past weekend on the status of Ciri's English voice actress, for which they sadly confirmed that Jo Wyatt won't be returning to voice the aforementioned character. At the same time, they revealed that the actress who'll be taking over from Wyatt as actress Ciara Berkeley has been announced as Ciri's new voice actor, whom fans have heard in the Cinematic Reveal trailer.
Ciara Berkeley was cast as Ciri for The Witcher IV Cinematic Reveal Trailer. Ciara is a talented actress who impressed us with her enthusiasm and vocal acting skills, and in this trailer, we believe she truly brought Ciri to life in a way that is both faithful to the character and exciting for fans of the series.
Indeed, it's truly heartbreaking that Wyatt won't be returning to The Witcher series as Ciri; however, it's been confirmed that Geralt of Rivia and his voice actor Doug Cockle are coming back, which the developer stated to IGN that he'll "will appear in the game, but we don’t want to spoil his role precisely." With the game officially announced with a new Cinematic trailer, we have no further information as to when the game will be released, for which CDPR has confirmed the game had entered "full-scale production" as of late November 2024.
