The recent release of Lords of the Fallen initially received a mixed reception, primarily due to performance issues across all platforms. However, this hasn't deterred many fans from looking past these issues to appreciate the game's core features, functionality, and overall design. Despite its rough start, there is much to love about this dark and challenging Souls-like game.
This is evident in the fact that the game achieved a significant milestone not even two full weeks after its release by selling over 1 million copies. This unexpected success prompts us to wonder how it happened and what it means for the game's future. To learn more about Lords of the Fallen's recent success in selling so well despite its initial flaws, let's delve deeper.
Lords of the Fallen Sells Over 1 Million Copies Since Release
As mentioned earlier, CI Games has recently announced that their newly released Souls-like game, Lords of the Fallen, has sold over 1 million copies worldwide in less than 10 days after its launch on October 13, 2023. While this news is undeniably impressive, it also comes as a surprise, especially considering that the recently released Bloodborne-esque title, Lies of P, took longer to reach the 1 million mark despite encountering fewer issues upon release.

Lords of the Fallen is plagued by various performance issues that have frustrated many players. Even for those who can play the game without significant problems, there are numerous haphazard game design choices such as enemy spam, ambushes, and subpar platforming, causing players to express their bewilderment with a simple question: "Why?"
Despite these shortcomings, the game continues to sell exceptionally well, and we believe it's due to one simple reason—Lords of the Fallen is a great game, flaws notwithstanding. Personally, I've spent quite some time with the game, and in my opinion, it makes sense, as I've thoroughly enjoyed the experience when I overlooked the aforementioned issues.
Ultimately, it stands to reason that many players feel the same way, and the wider gaming community seems willing to overlook some technical issues for the fantastic experience that Lords of the Fallen offers at its core. This, combined with the fact that Hexworks is diligently working to implement updates, fixes, and patches to improve the game, explains why the game managed to break the 1 million copy mark in less than a week, and for that, we tip our hat to both Hexworks and CI Games for the ultimate success that is Lords of the Fallen.
