Lords of the Fallen has experienced an increase in its success following a somewhat mixed launch earlier this month. While this uptick in popularity may be due to players seeking more Souls-like experiences, it's also quite likely that the game's developer support plays a significant role in making it more appealing to players. This is particularly evident in the most recent patch for the game, which includes an overhaul of the New Game Plus (NG+) system and other improvements.
If you're curious to know what changes have been made to this critical aspect in Lords of the Fallen, as well as other modifications aimed at creating a better gaming experience, you're in the right place. Below, we'll discuss how the most recent patch for Lords of the Fallen overhauled the NG+ system in the game and cover a few other changes, exploring how they impact the overall experience when you return to the game.
Lords of the Fallen Update Overhauls New Game Plus And More
As previously mentioned, Hexworks and CI Games released the latest update for Lords of the Fallen, which addressed various issues and bugs, including fan-requested tweaks primarily focused on the New Game Plus (NG+) system. NG+ is an iconic feature in many Souls and Souls-like games, offering players the opportunity to revisit the world with new challenges, discover fresh content, and provide veteran players with increased difficulty.
In this latest update, one of the prominent community requests centered around Lords of the Fallen's Vestiges, or the checkpoint system, has been addressed. Players now have the option to choose how they'd like to restart their world. They can either advance to the next consecutive New Game Plus world or replay the current world at the same difficulty level, character, progression, and items while resetting all NPCs and quests.
The latter option allows trophy hunters and completionists to complete tasks without dealing with the heightened difficulty that typically accompanies a regular New Game Plus run. Additionally, instead of removing all Vestiges immediately, they will be gradually removed as the player progresses further up the NG ladder.
Patch v.1.1.224 is now live for Steam, while console updates are in the works with more news coming soon.

Today's patch notes include important information regarding:
- NG+ difficulty & Vestiges
- Enemy density
- Crossplay
- Progression loss

For example, in the first New Game Plus, only a few Vestiges will disappear, and in the second run, more will be removed. On the third run, all Vestiges will vanish, except for the ones in the main hub of Skyrest Bridge and Adyr. However, this particular feature will be implemented in a later patch coming on October 26th.
The studio is also working on a New Game Plus modifier system, which will give players the ability to fully customize their runs. This system will allow options such as choosing the number of Vestiges to keep, implementing a permadeath mode, and incorporating item and enemy randomizers. The exact release date for this feature is yet to be confirmed, so stay tuned for more information.
Lastly, this patch addresses a few other issues, including enemy density, enemy rubber banding (aggro and pursuit ranges), and general visual fixes. Overall, this patch has primarily focused on enhancing the NG+ system, and it is hoped that these changes will have a positive impact on the game. However, the true outcome will become clear as players get their hands on the update and share their thoughts and experiences.
