Happy The Last of Us (TLOU) Day, survivors! And what better way to acknowledge this celebrated pop culture occasion within the TLOU community than with a new exclusive look at the upcoming second season of the acclaimed HBO drama series?
The US cable network dropped the teaser trailer for the upcoming season to their digital platforms, set to premiere sometime in 2025; however, no release date was attached to the trailer. However, it gives audiences hints at the documented split between Ellie and Joel to the haunting tune of Pearl Jam's "Future Days.”
“After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind,” the official logline description reads (h/t The Hollywood Reporter).
The teaser trailer shows audiences some pivotal moments that will be pulling on our heartstrings in 2025, including the residents of Jackson fending off an attack of Clickers to new looks at Dina (Isabela Merced) and Abby (Kaitlyn Dever). The trailer also hints at the strained relationship between Ellie and Joel that will lead to one shocking demise, which fans of the video game series will recall the events from The Last of Us Part 2.
While 26th September remains synonymous with the day when the Cordyceps virus broke out in The Last of Us game, first released in 2013, HBO releasing the teaser trailer on TLOU Day was somewhat expected. The official posters for The Last of Us Season 2 were also released along with the teaser trailer, featuring Ellie, Abby, and Joel, designed for TLOU Day by New York Times bestselling artist Greg Ruth.
