For all those who love fighting games, one of the most anticipated releases by SNK and Koch Media is The King of Fighters XV, a new title that will bring 39 characters from this legendary franchise, to fight for being the best of all.
Thanks to Gamescom's Opening Night Live, we have had the opportunity to learn more about this new instalment, which after having been delayed due to problems in its development derived from the pandemic, we’ll soon be able to get our hands on.
The King of Fighters XV will see the return of the heroes of the beloved sagas of Orochi, NESTS and Ash, bringing an explosive climax to the story started in the previous title.
In terms of gameplay, it has been confirmed KOF XV will have the classic 3v3 combat format, allowing it to offer faster and more dynamic fights as well as hundreds of combinations of fighters to try.
New mechanics have also been added, starting with the Shatter Strike, which lets players counter opponents' attacks, and the improved MAX mode, which like the MAX (Quick) mode, allows combos to be executed by quickly pressing attack buttons.
Finally, the special moves have also been renewed and the gameplay refined. Locally, the game can be played either alone or with another player, while online play will allow up to eight players through different modes, all supported by its rollback technology:
- Ranked Match
- Casual Match
- Room Match
- Online Training
The game will be available in two editions: the Standard Edition for $59.99, featuring a Classic Leona costume and Garou: Mark of the Wolves costume for Terry as pre-order bonuses, and a Deluxe Edition for $84.99 including the above, alongside the Team Passes 1 and 2, that will include six new characters to be revealed.
The King of Fighters XV is set to release on 17th February 2022, on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
