Over two years The Day Before was announced by developers Fntastic, it looks like everything is already dead on arrival. The news is more than a little shocking to many players, especially as The Day Before just went live for Early Access days ago. There's been plenty of trepidation as delays and trademark issues affected things, but now it looks like any hope of a resurgence is dead in the water along with Fntastic studio.
The Day Before Developer Fntastic Studio Shutters After Early Access
If you were one of many asking if The Day Before is real, you may not be shocked to hear that the launch has already crashed and burned with the official closure of Fntastic per their announcement seen above. The title from developer Fntastic has been marred with controversy since being announced in early 2021 due to significant delays and an apparent trademark fight with a calendar app, things seemed to finally stabilize heading into the launch of Early Access on December 7.
And then the game actually arrived, and every single person that played it absolutely lambasted The Day Before for being nothing like it had been advertised and significantly inferior to the product players expected. Launch struggles are nothing new for most games, as titles often still have to make improvements through Early Access, but there's no hope for a Cyberpunk 2077 style revival this time around.
In a statement released by Fntastic on Twitter, they've announced "the closer of Fntastic studio." Due to the financial failure of The Day Before, the studio lacks "the funds to continue" as they instead focus on paying off debts to partners. Fntastic insists they "didn't take any money from the public" for development, firing back at claims of it being a scam.
While they've stated that "the future of The Day Before and Propnight is unknown, but the servers will remain operational," that's a bandaid on a gaping wound if there ever was one. As of now, it looks likely that the closure of Fntastic will be the end of The Day Before less than a week after it arrived.
