Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder claims a podium finish almost two weeks following its release, charting the UK physical gaming charts. The latest Mario offering, released on 20th October 2023, moved up one position as previous chart-topper Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 now claims second in the same UK physical gaming charts in a surprising turn of events.
According to the GfK chart data reporting via GamesIndustry.biz, both games had a drop in sales; however, while Super Mario Bros. Wonder dropped by 55%, Spider-Man 2 had a more significant reduction of 69% which saw it slipping behind the Super Mario Bros. Wonder. However, regarding UK gaming boxed sales, both games are closely behind each other, with Spider-Man 2 remaining ahead of Super Mario Wonder, taking fourth and fifth, respectively.
Two EA titles are included in the charts for the week ending on 28th October 2023, as EA Sports FC 24 and UFC 5 claim third and seventh on the charts; the latter debuted this past week. Speaking of debuts, the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1 sneaks its way into the top five past Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which the latest AC game slips down into fifth.
A few more Nintendo games have claimed spots in the top ten UK physical gaming charts, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo Switch Sports, and Minecraft’s Nintendo Switch version rounding out the charts in sixth, ninth, and tenth. However, Sonic Superstars fell out of the top ten, dropping to 15th on the overall charts due to a massive decline of 72% in sales, while The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom holds onto its position despite a 9% drop in sales.
It’s important to note that these statistics reflect physical sales throughout the United Kingdom, as digital sales will likely have inflated many figures dramatically. Super Mario Bros. Wonder had since set a new record for Nintendo in becoming the fastest-selling Nintendo game in Europe, even though its opening weekend was significantly lower than Tears of the Kingdom.
