Surprise Starfield Update Makes the Game More Bearable Ahead of DLC Release Date
Bethesda

Bethesda has already given us a good look at the Starfield Shattered Space DLC, having had a dedicated trailer back in June, though a new Gamescom 2024 trailer has officially revealed the expansion’s release date: Monday, September 30. Arguably even more exciting than that though, we’re also getting a sweet new ride at long last - the REV-8 buggy - which plays a key role in the new content. However, you can actually already start burning rubber as the first-ever vehicle has been released today, Tuesday August 20, in a surprise free update for all players.

Announced during the Gamescom Opening Night Live presentation, the first Starfield DLC will be released at the end of September, just over a year since the RPG first launched. The new trailer gave us a glimpse at the many stunning new locations we’ll visit and even more teaser for the promising story about House Va’ruun’s hidden homeworld.

Though the trailer put a great emphasis on the new REV-8 buggy, suggesting it would be a key feature of the upcoming expansion, it’s already available in-game as part of a new free update that was released just after the presentation. As you’d expect, you can whizz around planets on your buggy with your companions along for the ride. The fun doesn’t stop there, though, as the vehicle also comes with jet boosters and is influenced by the gravity of your current location, meaning you can glide across low-gravity planets.

Don’t worry, you’re not defenseless while driving either, since the REV-8 comes equipped with a roof-mounted rocket launcher.

With the addition of vehicles at long last, Bethesda has finally addressed one of the main criticisms of Starfield. Though we’re still hoping the environments become more varied and interesting to explore, adding a buddy at least makes traversing them more engaging.

So, while you can already enjoy the thrills of a new land vehicle, you’ll still have to wait until the Starfield Shattered Space DLC releases on Monday, September 30 until you can use it to the fullest. For even more fun right now though, why not play around with Starfield Xbox cheats and PC console commands?
