Publisher Bethesda Softworks has shared the most recent gameplay footage for Starfield's upcoming expansion. Shattered Space is the first story expansion for the action role-playing game Starfield, and it will launch on 30th September 2024, for Xbox Series X|S consoles and PCs which the publisher released a short preview accompanying the featurette of what to expect.
Narrated by Starfield's creative producer Tim Lamb, the Shattered Space DLC finds players traversing to "the homeworld of House Va'ruun for the first time." This "fully handcrafted new location" immerses players into a web of intrigue as they "unravel the mysteries surrounding the followers of the Great Serpent."
According to the Shattered Space DLC press release, "House Va'ruun is on the brink of collapse, and their people need help finding a path forward. When your sudden presence on their hidden home planet is seen by some as divine intervention, it's up to you to restore House Va'ruun and decide the fate of this secretive faction."
Following their arrival on the planet to locate its capital, "a massive vortex had recently devastated Dazra, swallowing huge chunks of the city" as its citizens begin searching for their missing loved ones. While their sudden appearance draws ire from them, their adventures on this planet find players discovering the truth behind this mysterious vortex as "the fate of House Va’ruun" rests in their hands.
Starfield's lead producer, Joe Mueller, explained in the Shattered Space preview post that players will be given an "opportunity to explore every nook and cranny" of this homeworld, and they must investigate "who these people really are and what happened to them. The whole planet tells the story of these people who have never left their home and want to remain a secret,” but for how much longer will it be kept secret?
Starfield's Shattered Space expansion launches for Xbox Series X|S and PC on 30th September 2024; however, it won't be available via Xbox Game Pass as subscribers must buy the DLC separately. Players who own either the Starfield Premium or Constellation Edition are guaranteed to get the DLC with 'their original purchase," while those who have the base game can acquire the Premium Edition Upgrade to access the DLC along with other digital goodies, including 1,000 Creation Credits, a Digital Art Book, Original Soundtrack, and the Constellation Skin cosmetic pack.
