Kay Vess will acquire an arsenal of tools that are hugely valuable to her journey toward freedom in multiple ways. Many of these tools will become available through acquisition or quest progression, like the Data Spike tool, which is integral to the Lockpicking minigame.

This tool will remain permanently bound to her Inventory, but how exactly can players receive it in-game? This guide explains how to get the Data Spike tool and what it's mainly used for in Star Wars Outlaws.

How To Get The Data Spike Tool In Star Wars Outlaws?

Kay Vess will gain access to a wide variety of unique skills, upgrades, and tools that can help her complete jobs through the main, side, and Faction quests or by following up on Intel leads in Star Wars Outlaws. Some will be provided to her from the Expert system, like skills and upgrades purchased from merchants, and through progression, like quest completion rewards.

The latter is true for the Data Spike tool, one of the first tools she'll obtain fairly early in the main story questline. More specifically, the Data Spike tool can be acquired during the first quest in Canto Bight, where Kay initially lost it following an altercation with the Sixth Kin; with The Broken Hoof's bartender, Bram, one of Kay's Expert NPCs, will return it to her.

Tasked with repairing the Data Spike, she can visit a contact in the Worker's District, but with insufficient funds, she won't be able to fix the tool. As such, Kay can find various loot around this area or send Nix to steal from Stormtroopers and other NPCs before returning with Credits to pay for the repairs.

With the newly repaired Data Spike in her possession, what exactly can it be used for? Glad you asked, as this tool is the centerpiece of one of Star Wars Outlaws' standing features, Minigames of which the Lockpicking or Data Spiking rhythm minigame is how this tool can be used.

Whether in quests or through exploration, Kay will discover locked caches, doors, vents, and vaults in a few instances when she'll need to use the Data Spike tool to lockpick them. Luckily, the Data Spike tool is permanently bound to her Inventory, so losing it is a thing of the past so they'll always have it ready for a Lockpicking minigame!

When she approaches a datapad, a prompt reads "Override Lock," listens to the "rhythmic pattern," and uses the Data Spike to sync with the pattern within the loop. If successful, they will have solved the Lockpicking datapad and gain access to previously inaccessible areas, rooms, vents, and containers and discover secrets or loot items that can be found.
