Just a few days after its release, the Silent Hill 2 remake's Metacritic score is creeping up on the original's. While the original title from 2001 boasts a 'generally favorable' score of 89, the remake is sitting at an 86, with over 80 critic reviews already in.
Those neck and neck scores are the game's "Metascore," which is based only on critic reviews. At the time of writing, the Silent Hill 2 remake actually has a higher user score than the original, with a 9.3 compared to the original's 8.8.
It's definitely worth noting that the original game is decades old, while the remake just released a few days ago. As such, it's very possible that these scores could change in the future as more players journey into Bloober Team's modernized rendition of Silent Hill 2 and form their own opinions.
But even though the exact scores are subject to change in the future, the Silent Hill 2 remake's high rating suggests that fans enjoyed the game a lot more than many originally anticipated. Some fans doubted Bloober Team's ability to successfully reimagine Silent Hill 2 for modern audiences, but the remake has earned itself highly positive scores on Steam, Metacritic, and OpenCritic.
Bloober Team and Konami's Silent Hill 2 remake is available on PS5 and Steam for PC now.
