Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition will get its final update on 30 August, developers say. This last update will include new water effects and tons of other enhancements and fixes for the iconic survival horror, which was originally released back in 2001.
In fact, developers promise that the patch coming next week will be the "biggest update ever," with not only quality of life improvements, but also lots of "loving touches throughout the game."
Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition is a fanmade Silent Hill 2 remaster, which makes the PC compatible with modern hardware. It also introduces some enhancements to the experience - just as its name implies - with modernizations to visuals, audio, mechanics, and more. Created by a team of programmers, modders, and artists, the team behind the Enhanced Edition calls it a "definitive Silent Hill 2 HD experience."
An official Silent Hill HD Collection exists, and it includes the first three games - but many fans have complained about various issues with the official version since its release. It includes new voice acting, significantly less thick fog, and a variety of other problematic changes, leading many fans to turn to the Enhanced Edition as an alternative instead.
The final update to the Enhanced Edition comes just a few months before the release of Bloober Team and Konami's Silent Hill 2 remake, which is set to hit digital shelves in October. The team behind Enhanced Edition has praised the upcoming remake on social media, calling it "beautiful."
