Sea of Thieves frequently adds new features and gameplay mechanics to enhance the player experience as they embark on epic adventures across the oceans. One feature of the last year has been a recent addition, which is something they can do in-game for PlayStation 5 players jumping into the game.
Following the release of the Season 7 content update in August 2022, the Captaincy system allows pirates to captain their Ships and access additional features, including naming their Ships. Add the finishing touch by giving their Ships a name, as we detailed in this guide on how to name a Ship in Sea of Thieves.
How To Name The Ship In Sea Of Thieves?
With the introduction of the Captaincy system to the Sea of Thieves Season 7 content update, pirates not only can captain a Ship but have access to a host of new features and rewards. One of the new features that pirates will be able to have fun with is the ability to name or rename their Ship regardless of which Ship Type they own.
This was further explained in a dedicated Support FAQ page that outlined several rules pirates must follow when naming their large wooden vessels. Firstly, all named Ships must comply with the Community Code of Conduct, which ensures that pirates joining the open world are welcomed in an inclusive environment, which extends to naming Ships.
As such, pirates must follow a couple of requirements, but the important thing to remember is that the Ship name must be family-friendly. Furthermore, any Ship names with puns or adult-themed innuendos may result in enforcement from the dev support team, which may see Ship naming rights revoked, suspended, or banned.
Let's look at the requirements the developer has outlined in their Support FAQ page on naming Ships in Sea of Thieves:
- Ship names must be at most 20 characters long.
- Ship names can't contain numbers or numerical values.
- Ship names can't start or end with a space.
- Ship names can't contain certain special characters.
- Ship names shouldn't contain any trademarked content.
To name their Ship, they can access the "My Ships" menu after choosing between "Adventure" or "A Pirate's Life" from the Main Menu. They'll proceed to a new menu screen where they can select "My Ships" before choosing a Ship Type to purchase, and the option to name the Ship will be provided to them.
Pirates can rename their Ships if they're not satisfied with their current names; however, this change will cost them handsomely. They must obtain the Renaming Deed item from the Pirate Emporium, which can only be purchased by Captains for 499 Ancient Coins.
