During the Xbox Bethesda showcase a new Sea of Thieves DLC expansion was announced (as is tradition year on year with Xbox showcases). This one focuses on Monkey Island and features Guybrush Threepwood in a substantial role, but according to the creator of Monkey Island it was made entirely without his knowledge.
When asked on Mastodon about the game and whether he was involved with the title, creator Ron Gilbert responded with:
"Nope. Wasn't even told about it. Happened behind my back."
Gilbert was then asked if he'd worked with the Sea of Thieves team at all, and replied with:
"Nope. It was all done without my knowledge or input."
This is interesting to consider, especially since it appears that the DLC is taking a lot of inspiration and content from the first two Monkey Island titles, which are both games that Gilbert himself directed.
