Code Veronica Remake Is Not In Development
Unfortunately, Capcom is not working on a Resident Evil Code Veronica, despite the demand from hundreds and thousands of RE fans all over the world.
The aforementioned news comes from Resident Evil 4 remake producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi during an interview with Noisy Pixel. When asked whether Hirabayashi would like to work on a Code Veronica remake, he said that his current focus is on the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake with no concrete plans for a Code Veronica remake.
However, he didn't completely deny the possibility of a full-blown reimagining of Code Veronica in the future and said if the “opportunity comes, maybe.”
For those unaware, Resident Evil Code Veronica is a spin-off entry in the RE franchise, set between the events of Resident Evil 2 & 3. It features Claire Redfield as the protagonist, who, after escaping Racoon City, is now searching for his brother Chris Redfield in an Umbrella Corporation facility in Paris before getting caught up in a T-Virus outbreak.
Despite its critical success, Resident Evil Code Veronica never became as big of a commercial success as other mainline RE games. This could also explain why a Code Veronica remake is not currently in development.
However, that hasn't stopped Code Veronica fans from sharing their hopes on social media platforms for a potential remake in the future.
Suffice it to say, if Capcom decides to remake more RE games after RE 4, it's safe to assume that it would be Code Veronica rather than something like Resident Evil 5 or 6.
