Poppy Playtime Chapter 3: Ending Explained
At the end of Poppy Playtime Chapter 3, players defeat and kill CatNap- but it's not all by their own hand. While the protagonist does most of the damage to CatNap by completing the battery puzzle and shooting him with their GrabPack hand, a Prototype ends up killing it in the end and snatching CatNap away from the player.
Players then view a video reiterating Poppy Playtime lore, letting them know that everyone is dead, with experiments now taking over the world (such as those lingering in the Poppy Playtime factory and warehouses). However, before players get a chance to process what they've seen, you'll end up on the bottom floor of the factory.
Here, things get even more intense when players will suddenly hear a scream from Kissy Missy. It's unclear as to who attacked her, or even why she's screaming - but it's definitely jarring! So who caused Kissy Missy to scream, and what does this mean for Chapter 4?
The Prototype is Poppy Playtime's main antagonist, but is never once seen on screen; in fact, it's possible that the Prototype doesn't even have a physical form of its own, at least not one that it wants others to witness. As a result, the Prototype is likely either looking for a new physical form - perhaps Kissy Missy's, thus her scream? - or to make its physical form different. This would make sense, since we see The Prototype kill CatNap and it is definitely present in the factory. Some of the other experiments, like Huggy Wuggy, may be dead, meaning that they couldn't have caused the scream nor would they have the same motive as The Prototype.
For now, we'll have to wait for Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 to find out what happened to Kissy Missy, and perhaps even see The Prototype for the first time. It's unknown whether CatNap is truly dead, either, or will make a reappearance in some new form in Chapter 4. As evidenced by The Prototype, it seems that some experiments are able to change forms, so it could be possible that many of the "dead" characters in the series aren't actually gone for good.
