Pokémon Sword and Shield’s new expansion The Crown Tundra brings back a wealth of legendary Pokémon, while adding some new additions too.
Along with the Galarian forms of legendary birds Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres, there’s also the Swords of Justice from Generation V and new additions like the mysterious Calyrex.
For many, a big part of their inclusion will be chasing the Shiny version of each Pokémon. This isn’t possible however if the respective Pokémon is Shiny locked within the title.
So which Pokémon does it apply to in The Crown Tundra DLC? Here’s what you need to know.
What does Shiny lock mean?

When someone refers to a Pokémon being Shiny locked, it means that Pokémon cannot be found in its Shiny form no matter how many times you encounter it. When this is the case, the Shiny version is usually tied to a special event.
A Pokémon’s Shiny form is the most sought after version, so sometimes these are either held back for certain events or restricted to keep them rare.

Are Pokémon in Dynamax Adventures Shiny locked?
For new mode Dynamax Adventures, where you team up with trainers to tackle a sequence of battles for a legendary beast, you can attain Shiny versions of Pokémon.
Annoyingly however, on top of having a slim chance of encountering a Shiny version, you’ll have to reset and start from the beginning if you want to re-roll the Shiny odds.
Attention: in Dynamax Adventures you don't know if the Pokémon is shiny until you're at the results screen.

It’s important to note too, you can only tell if the respective legendary Pokémon in Dynamax Adventures is Shiny on the screen where you decide whether to keep them or not - signified by the sparkles around their icon. You cannot tell if they’re Shiny during battle.
