Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are on their way, and the developers from Niantic have given us some keen insight into what we can expect once the game releases later this year. A recent competitive play trailer has given us some brand new information to sink our teeth into, and if you want to know more about it, you're in the right place.
Below we will be taking a look at everything that's been introduced in the competitive play trailer, including the new Pokémon, Cyclizar. Along with the new items, moves, and features that have been introduced to get you ready for battle once the game drops.
Pokémon Scarlet & Violet - Cyclizar
The competitive play trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet revealed our first look at one of the new Pokémon that will be introduced, Cyclizar. This Dragon and Normal type Pokémon seems to be the pre-evolution of the two Legendary Pokémon, Koraidon and Miraidon, which is especially apparent when looking at its appearance.
It has been revealed on Pokémon.com that Cyclizar "has been a resident of numerous homes in the Paldea region since the beginning of time. It has a friendly disposition, and Cyclizar riders are frequently seen. Cyclizar doesn't seem to mind being ridden because the warmth of the rider keeps the cold at bay."
Pokémon Scarlet & Violet - New Movesets
Battles will now be altered with the addition of new moves in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The new Pokémon in the area typically make extensive use of the new moves introduced in a new generation but that doesn't mean that Pokémon from earlier generations won't be able to learn these new moves as well.
Shed Tail
The new Pokémon Cyclizar's signature move appears to be Shed Tail. Given that Cyclizar looks like a lizard, Shed Tail is an appropriate naming choice for the Pokémon because it will allow it to create a replacement to escape foes or gain an advantage in battle.
Shed Tail creates a dummy using its HP, similar to how Substitute works. Shed Tail, however, allows it to switch out with another Pokémon in your party after producing a replacement, which might lead to a powerful combo or defensive maneuver that can save you in battle.
Terastallizing and Tera Blast
A new feature explored in the competitive play trailer is the Terastallizing mechanic. This new feature causes Pokémon to "shine and glimmer like gems." However, Terastallizing in battle changes the type of your Pokémon to Tera Type.
Tera Blast is a Normal-type move in its basic form, but when used by a Terastallized Pokémon, it takes on the same type as the Pokémon's Tera Type. The move is taught by TM and uses the Pokémon's highest stat between Attack and Sp. Attack to inflict damage.
Pokémon Scarlet & Violet - New Items
Trainers can plan and execute complex strategies in Pokémon battles with the addition of held items. Held items serve as a hidden trick up a trainer's sleeve, and the element of surprise is invaluable in a Pokémon battle.
Mirror Herb
Mirro Herb is a newly held item introduced in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The item will undoubtedly be a staple in Ranked Battles. Mirror Herb allows your Pokémon to duplicate your opponent's stat increases, but only once.
Simply put, if the Pokémon you're facing uses Acid Armor, for instance, your Pokémon will receive a +2 boost to their Defense stat for one time only.
Covert Cloak
Another item that trainers should see a lot of in competitive battles is Covert Cloak. This Item protects a Pokémon from the additional effects of Pokémon moves.

In other words, if an opponent's Pokémon uses Fire Spin, your Pokémon will not be trapped and thus not receive additional damage for each turn while trapped.
Loaded Dice
Loaded Dice is an ideal item for Pokémon with multiple hit moves, such as Arm Thrust. When a Pokémon uses a multistrike move while holding Loaded Dice, the move has a higher chance of hitting more times.
And that's everything you need to know about the new Pokémon, move sets, items, and more to come from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
