Best Eevee Evolution In Pokémon GO

Overall, Umbreon is considered the best Eevee evolution in Pokémon GO amongst Trainers. (Picture: The Pokémon Company)

Three Eevee evolutions stand out based on stats alone: Espeon has the best combat power and attack stats. The Umbreon evolution has better defensive stats, while the Vaporeon evolution has the highest stamina values.

With this in mind, the best Eevee evolution in Pokémon GO is Umbreon, the Dark-type Eevee evolution. Its popularity amongst Trainers has ranked this Pokémon reasonably high in terms of PvP potential. Umbreon has the highest defensive stats and is second in stamina to Vaporeon, but its specific weaknesses are something you won't often encounter in battles.

Also worth mentioning: the Psychic-type Espeon is another excellent option. For both PvE and PvP, it has the best combat power (CP) and attack stats. While it has moderate stamina stats, its defense may be one of the lowest.

Lastly, for some of the weaker Eevee evolutions, there are stronger Pokémon that would be better utilized, like Charizard instead of Flareon or Mamoswine for Glaceon. By no means it's not worth acquiring; however, with plenty of other alternatives available, it would be wise to invest in a Pokémon with better potential in Leagues, Raids, and Gyms.

How To Get Umbreon Evolution In Pokémon GO

Trainers looking to catch this Dark-type Eevee evolution can do so in a few ways. The popular naming trick is one method to acquire the Umbreon evolution; however, it does come with a warning as you can use it only once per evolution form.

You must change the Eevee's name to Tamao on its profile page by clicking the Edit (pencil) icon and renaming it before feeding it 25 Eevee Candy. Before evolving the Pokémon, Trainers need to ensure that the silhouette of Umbreon matches the nickname entered, or you'll receive a different Eevee evolution before the evolution is complete.

Another way to acquire Umbreon is to select Eevee as your Buddy, enjoy long walks and earn Eevee Candy to evolve it. (Picture: The Pokémon Company)

Another option to get Umbreon is through the Buddy Adventure feature by selecting Eevee as your Buddy. This method will allow you to earn Candy when exploring and develop a Trainer-Pokémon relationship with your Eevee.

Walk your Eevee for at least 6 miles (10 km) before you can consider evolving it. To get the Umbreon evolution, however, you'll need to evolve Eevee during the nighttime, as evolving it in the daytime will get you Espeon instead.
