There are a number of new evolutions in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl that originated in Pokémon Platinum. Game Freak decided to give some single and double evolution Pokémon a third form, like Magnezone and Dusknoir. However, Magmortar is one of the most sought-after of these new forms thanks to its Fire typing.
Fire-types are in short supply in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. While there are more Fire-types thanks to the Grand Underground, few are stronger than Magmortar. To find out how to add the powerful Fire Pokémon to your team, keep reading the guide below.
Getting Magmortar in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
The first step you need to take is catching Magby. The baby Pokémon evolves into Magmar, a beloved 'mon from the Generation I games. In order to catch Magby, you need to head into the Grand Underground and go into one of several caves. These caves include Volcanic Cave, Sandsear Cave and Typho Cave. Unfortunately, Magby is exclusive to Shining Pearl, so Brilliant Diamond players will have to trade with another player.
Once you have Magby in your party, you need to train it up to level 30. This evolves it into Magmar, a powerful Fire-type on its own. Of course, Magmortar is even stronger, so how can you acquire it? You first need to find the Magmarizer held item, which can be found by catching Magby. Each Magby has a 5% chance to have the Magmarizer, so you’ll need to keep catching the baby Pokémon until you find one that has the item.
After you find the Magmarizer, you need to give it to Magmar. You’ll then need to trade that Magmar to another player to evolve it into Magmortar. If you don’t have a trade partner, then there’s no way to evolve Magmar in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
