In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, players have access to a wide variety of Legendary Pokémon to catch. These Legendaries hail from multiple different regions and some are exclusive to the two versions of the Sinnoh remakes. Lugia, one of the Legendary guardians from the Johto games, is a Shining Pearl exclusive.

If players own a copy of Shining Pearl, then they can hunt down Lugia with some luck and by knowing what to do. Players can find out exactly how to catch Lugia in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl by reading the guide below.

Lugia, known as the “Guardian of the Seas,” is a Flying and Psychic-type. Its type has always been confusing for some players, due to Lugia’s aquatic background, but nevertheless, Lugia is a strong Legendary Pokémon. To catch it, you will need to have beaten the game and met up with Professor Oak at Ramanas Park.

This new location can be found by surfing south of Sandgem Town. At Ramanas Park, you can talk to the receptionist to buy Discovery Slates at first. These slates are essential to catching Ramanas Park’s Legendary Pokémon. You can read about how to acquire the slates in a previous guide but it comes down to mining them in the Grand Underground.

However, you won’t be able to encounter Lugia with the Discovery Slates. Those slates trigger encounters with the Regi trio. After you’ve encountered all three of the Regis, you can then mine for Kanto Slates. This unlocks another round of Legendary Pokémon to find in another room inside of Ramanas Park.

Once you’ve gotten enough Kanto Slates, you can mine for Squall Slates, which is what you need for Lugia. With your Squall Slates, you can find the Squall Room northeast of the entrance to the park and inset them into the pedestal to encounter and catch Lugia.
