Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl returns the three popular starters from the original games. Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup are some of the most beloved starters in Pokémon’s history and it’s natural that players want to see if they can make them look even better. One of the more popular questions in the early life cycle of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is how to get a shiny starter.
More specifically, though, players are interested in how to get a shiny Turtwig. The Grass-type starter has arguably the best shiny form out of the three starters in the Sinnoh remakes. The light blue mixed with the green and yellow looks terrific and only gets cooler as Turtwig goes through its evolutions.
Below, players can see exactly what they need to do in order to get their hands on a shiny Turtwig in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Getting a shiny Turtwig in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
The process to acquire a shiny Turtwig is the same as getting any other shiny starter in Pokémon. You need to start a new game of Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl and go through the first part of the game. Keep playing until you need to meet Barry at the lakefront where you’re hoping to find a Red Gyrados.
Before actually meeting Barry, though, you want to save your game. Then, keep going to meet Barry and he will follow you into the lake. Before entering the lakefront, save the game once again. Then, head into the lake and go through the cutscene with Professor Rowan and Dawn.
When they leave, you’ll have the chance to select your starter. Naturally, you want to select Turtwig. Unfortunately, you cannot see if it is shiny until you enter the battle with the wild Starly. If it isn’t shiny, then you can reset your game by closing the application and then restarting it. This will bring you back to your last save and you can retry the process of getting the shiny Turtwig.
This is the only way to acquire the shiny starter in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. It might take several hours or days or it might only take a few resets.
