Battle Weekend during the Anniversary Event is upon us in Pokémon GO and that means there is plenty of new content for Trainers to dive into. Aside from the Battle Weekend Challenge research that will be released, Trainers will also be able to catch their own Shadow Latios.
Earlier in the year, Shadow Latias was tamed by Giovanni and could be earned through a similar challenge system before the release of the Mega versions. Now that the Season of GO has been in motion, the next shadow for Trainers to save is Shadow Latios, the other half of the Legendary duo. But to get there, you'll need to take on the Field Notes: Team GO Rocket research.
Earn Shadow Latios through the Field Notes: Team GO Rocket research
Before we jump into all of the steps and challenges that you must take on with the Field Notes: Team GO Rocket research, it's important to note the timeline of Shadow Latios. When the Pokémon GO Battle Weekend goes live at 12 am local time on July 9, everyone will have the opportunity to claim the research by logging in.

This research will remain available until the end of the Season of GO which is September 1, 2022. As a set of Special Research, the challenges will remain even after the Battle Weekend ends. That rule won't be the same for the weekend timed research, but it still helps to know the steps all the same. Below you will find all the steps and rewards for a Shadow Latios.

You'll notice that Shadow Latios is not listed under any of the rewards for the Field Notes research. That's because the Legendary is used as a reward for the encounter when you defeat the Team GO Rocket Boss, otherwise known as Giovanni.
If you follow all of the research above and defeat the Team GO Rocket Leaders, then you will eventually get to the Shadow Latios that you are looking for. However, Giovanni is certainly the hardest Team GO Rocket challenge, and you'll need your best team.
