One of the more unique Pokémon in the entire franchise is Porygon. A Pokémon generated in a computer, Porygon has never been readily caught by simply meandering throughout grass patches in the wild. Instead, players need to get a bit more creative when trying to catch Porygon.
The same is true in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, as Porygon has a random chance to spawn in one specific location of Sinnoh. That random chance could take some time to get, but players should know how to check if Porygon is available to be caught. Below, they can find out exactly how to do so.
Finding Porygon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
To catch Porygon, you will first need to beat the main story of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and acquire the National Dex. You can acquire the National Dex by seeing all 150 Pokémon in the Sinnoh Dex and talking to Professor Rowan in Sandgem Town.
With the National Dex, you can try and catch Porygon. You will need to travel to the Trophy Garden to do so, which is located on Route 212.
Enter the Pokémon Mansion and talk to Mr Backlot inside. He will tell you that one particular Pokémon is spawning in the Trophy Garden in the backyard. The man will tell you about a new Pokémon every day.
If you’re lucky, then Mr Backlot will tell you that Porygon is spawning in the Trophy Garden. When he says that, you can head out back, walk around in the grass and wait for a Porygon to appear. You can then catch it and add it to your party.
If you want to evolve Porygon, you will first need to find the Upgrade item and give it to Porygon to hold. You’ll then need to trade Porygon, at which point it will evolve into Porygon2.
To trigger the second evolution, you’ll need to find the Dubious Disc item and give it to Porygon2. Once again, you’ll need to trade Porygon2 to trigger the evolution into Porygon Z.
That’s all of the evolutions for Porygon and how to catch its original form in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
