Similarly to most other Pokémon games, there is an abundance of Water-types in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. So, players won't have to look far to add a surfer or water tank to their team. However, if players want to avoid the same old Water-types they encounter in every Pokémon generation, they can use a Mantine.
Mantine is a Generation II Pokémon that can be quite effective in battle if given the proper move set. However, for players to unlock the Mantine's full potential, they'll first need to catch its pre-evolved form, Mantyke.
How to get Mantyke in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Mantyke isn't exclusive to Pokémon Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl, so any player can go out and catch it. To do so, you can explore two locations on the main Sinnoh map: Route 223 or off the coast of Sunnyshore City.
You can only encounter Mantyke by surfing on the water, so pulling out a fishing rod will do you no good. If you want to head underground, you can find Mantyke swimming on the water in the following caves:
- Fountainspring Cave
- Riverbank Cave
- Spacious Cave
- Still-Water Cavern
One thing to note: You need to have acquired the HM for Waterfall before you can encounter Mantyke in the Grand Underground. You receive Waterfall from Jasmine, who's at the north beach of Sunnyshore City.
Once you run into the underground and catch the Mantyke, you can evolve it into Mantine. However, to do this, you also need to catch a Remoraid and make sure it's in your party.
You can catch Remoraid in all of the same caves as Mantyke.
With the Remoraid and Mantyke in your party, you need to level Mantyke up once. After it's levelled up, you will have a fully evolved Mantine ready to use in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
