How to catch Trapinch/Flygon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Trapinch starts off one of the best evolutionary lines that can be caught in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

The amount of Pokémon not originally found in the 2007 Diamond and Pearl games that are included in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is quite overwhelming. Players don’t have to worry about filling up their Pokédex too quickly, as they’ll be searching for every catchable Pokémon for a long time.

One of the better Pokémon players can catch outside of the standard Sinnoh Pokédex is Trapinch, which evolves into Flygon at the third stage of evolution. Flygon is a powerful Ground and Dragon-type Pokémon that can go head-to-head with Garchomp in terms of stats and moveset. However, in order for players to add a Flygon to their party, they need to know where to catch Trapinch in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

To start, you’ll need to have beaten the main story of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and acquired the National Dex. The National Dex is given to you after you see all 150 Pokémon in the Sinnoh Dex and talk to Professor Rowan.

With the National Dex in hand, you can go about catching Trapinch. This is done in one of two ways, the first being in the Grand Underground. Trapinch spawns in Rocky Cave, Big Bluff Cavern and Sandsear Cave. You’ll need to find one of these caves and search for Trapinch until it spawns it. You can simply exit and re-enter the caves to re-roll the spawns of the Pokémon until you see a Trapinch.

The other method is through the PokéRadar. Once you acquire this device from Professor Rowan after receiving the National Dex, you can go into the grass of Route 228. Here, some of the grass patches will shake, which will eventually yield a Trapinch spawn. However, the Pokémon has a rare encounter rate, so be prepared to stay around for a while.

Once you have a Trapinch in your party, you can level it up to evolve it into a Vibrava at level 35. However, you can also get lucky in the Grand Underground and find a Vibrava in the same caves as Trapinch is found.

Regardless, once you have Vibrava you can train it up to level 45 to evolve it into Flygon. If you found Vibrava by itself in the Grand Underground, then you’ll just need to level it up once to get a Flygon.
