When Murkrow was introduced with the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl games, players almost instantly fell in love with it. The typing of Flying and Dark was rare at the time and players took full advantage of the Pokémon, especially when fighting against Fantina and Lucian. However, the Pokémon was also notoriously difficult to catch in those games.
With Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the spawn rate on Murkrow is a bit more lenient, thanks to the Grand Underground. However, some players haven’t been lucky enough to run into the Dark-type bird. Below is a guide detailing exactly where players can catch Murkrow in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Catching Murkrow in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Right out of the gate, if you own a copy of Shining Pearl, you will be unable to find Murkrow in your game. The Pokémon is exclusive to Brilliant Diamond, so the only way Shining Pear players can acquire it is by trading or using the Pokémon Home system that will not be available until some point in 2022.
For Brilliant Diamond players, there are a few different spots you can encounter Murkrow. The first place is in Eterna Forest, but only at night time. The Pokémon has a low spawn rate even at night, so players might need to spend some time running around and fighting Wurmples before they see Murkrow.
The next spot to catch the bird is in the Grand Underground. We were able to find our Murkrow in a Spacious Cave before beating Gardenia in Eterna City. You can obtain the Explorer’s Kit to go underground from the man next to the Pokémon Center in Eterna and use it before going in to face Gardenia.
If you enter a Spacious Cave and don’t find Murkrow, simply exit and then re-enter the cave to change up the Pokémon spawns. Repeat this process until Murkrow appears for you.
The last place to catch Murkrow is in the Lost Tower directly south of Solaceon Town. Murkrow has a low spawn rate here as well, so your best bet is likely in the Grand Underground. Once you’ve caught Murkrow, you can evolve it into Honchkrow with a Dusk Stone in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
