Whilst the two latest Pokémon instalments in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are remakes of the classic 2006 Nintendo DS releases, developers found a way to integrate previous Legendary Pokémons so you can try and catch ‘em all!
That’s right -- The Gen 3 poster boys are in the game and ready for you to seek them out in the Sinnoh region so without further ado, here’s everything you need to know to catch Groudon and Kyogre in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl!
How to spawn Groudon & Kyogre in Pokémon BD & SP
To even get a chance to get close to the ground and water behemoths, Pokémasters will need to beat the game in order to trigger their spawn. The Hoenn Legendaries will be “unlocked” for catchin’ after you receive the National Pokédex.
Here’s the full list of requirements you need to check off so Kyogre and Groudon can become catchable in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl:
- Beat the Elite Four and Cynthia
- Complete the Sinnoh Dex (all 150 Pokémons)
- Speak to Professor Rowan in Sandgem Town to get the National Pokédex
- Head to Ramanas Park (map reference below)
- Purchase the Tectonic Slate and Oceanic Slate to spawn Groudon and Kyogre, respectively
How to catch Groudon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Ramanas Park will be the tryhard trainer’s candy store as it will provide players to catch several Gen’s Legendaries despite the Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl’s original source material.
The Legendaries will be waiting for you in different rooms, caves and whatnot with the option to spawn them using various Slates, though they can only be activated in order.
Slates need to be purchased using Mysterious Shards that can be mined from the Grand Underground using the Explorer Kit. Grab as many as your inventory allows as you’ll need to go through a Slate-shopping spree to get a glimpse at Groudon and Kyogre. Here’s the full list of Slates order:
- Buy three Discovery Slates in the Ramanas Park lobby to unlock Regice, Regirock and Registeel
- After catching them, you’ll either get a Johto Slate if you are a Brilliant Diamond player or a Kanto Slate for Shining Pearl mains. Buy three of either or to unlock Raikou, Suicune and Entei OR Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres, respectively
- After catching them, buy two Soul Slates to unlock Latios and Latias
- After catching them, you will finally be able to buy the Tectonic Slate to unlock Groudon. Head to the corresponding room and slide the item in. The Legendary will spawn and immediately engage in battle, this is your chance to weaken and catch them -- Good luck!
How to catch Kyogre in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
For Kyogre, you will follow the exact same process as finishing the Slate order will lead you to unlock both Groudon’s and Kyogre’s Slates:
- Buy three Discovery Slates in the Ramanas Park lobby to unlock Regice, Regirock and Registeel
- After catching them, you’ll either get a Johto Slate if you are a Brilliant Diamond player or a Kanto Slate for Shining Pearl mains. Buy three of either or to unlock Raikou, Suicune and Entei OR Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres, respectively
- After catching them, buy two Soul Slates to unlock Latios and Latias
- After catching them, you will finally be able to buy the Oceanic Slate to unlock Kyogre. Head to the corresponding room and slide the item in. The Legendary will spawn and immediately engage in battle, this is your chance to weaken and catch them -- Good luck!
Trainers will have to purchase a total of eight slates using 27 Mystery Shards in order to even get a chance at Groudon and Kyogre -- talk about a reward system!
Ramanas Park allows players to catch 10 Legendaries on this site and, depending on your game version, you could end up with a roster to faint for, pun intended.
