Darkrai is a Mythical Pokémon that was introduced in Generation IV with the original Diamond and Pearl games. The Dark-type is a fan-favorite Pokémon and, naturally, players want to know if they can obtain it in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
There is a plethora of other Mythical Pokémon that are catchable in the Sinnoh remakes. From Mew and Jirachi to Manaphy, players are sporting more Mythical Pokémon in their party than ever before. Cresselia, Darkrai’s Lunar duo, is also catchable in the game, so players have wondered where Darkrai can be caught to fill out the pairing.
Below, players can see the answer to the Darkrai question in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Catching Darkrai in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
The short answer to the question is no, Darkrai cannot currently be caught in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. It’s unknown why the developers made Cresselia an encounter but not the other half of the Lunar Duo. If you see someone with a Darkrai in their party, then they likely have a jailbroken Nintendo Switch console and received the Pokémon through that method.
For all legitimate purposes, though, Darkrai is not attainable in the games. It seems likely that the developers will release the Mythical Dark-type Pokémon sometime in the future through a Mystery Gift event, however. The same happened in the original 2007 games so players can expect the same to happen this time around.
Darkrai was able to be caught if players held the Member’s Card from the Mystery Gift system and accessed Newmoon Island. It’s unclear if that’s going to be the case in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
