It seems Nintendo are still taunting Pokémon fans, this time by adding another classic Pokémon game to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack — but not one of the main entries. If you had a Game Boy Advance, or Nintendo DS, back in the day, you may remember a fun little Pokémon RPG hitting the handheld console.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, you assume the role of a human tranformed into a Pokémon. Together with your partner pokemon, you must move through randomly generated dungeons, taking on mission-based jobs, and rescuing lost Pokémon.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team released for Game Boy Advance, alongside its Nintendo DS counterpart, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Resuce Team. Both versions are mostly identical, though Blue Mystery Dungeon made use of some Nintendo DS features such as the dual-screen.

On August 1, 2024, Nintendo announced that Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team would be added to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack library on August 9, 2024.

Mystery Dungeon is a series of games developed by Chunsoft (now Spike Chunsoft), the team also behind the original five Dragon Quest titles, and the Danganronpa series following the merger with Spike.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Resuce Team were the first entries for the Mystery Dungeon x Pokémon crossover. The latest addition was Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX back in 2020, and is a remake of Red/Blue Rescue Team.
