Just a couple of days before the Starly Community Day in Pokémon GO, Niantic finally released the Field Notes: Starly Special Research ticket in the shop. These tickets always give Trainers access to all the research challenges within the monthly Community Day and are typically cheap.
Before going into how to get the ticket, it's important to remember that Special Research isn't required to catch Starly all over the map.
You'll still be able to evolve Staravia for the Gust attack, and you'll have plenty of chances for a shiny. But if you want all of the Special Research challenges for the day, then a ticket is required.
How to get the Field Notes Starly Special Research ticket in Pokémon GO
So you've decided that you want the Field Notes Starly Special Research when the Community Day goes live on July 17. Luckily, getting the ticket is easy, but you'll need to do so before the event ends on that Sunday. The official Starly Community Day in Pokémon GO will run from 11 am local time to 2 pm local time.
At any point before 2 pm on Community Day, you can head to the Pokémon GO shop by opening up the game and tapping on the Poké Ball symbol at the bottom of the screen. From there, tap on the shop icon directly in the center of all the menu symbols. The first thing you'll see is the Community Day ticket.

The Starly Community Day ticket and its Special Research is called Field Notes: Starly, which you'll also see in the shop. Purchasing the ticket will cost $0.99, and you won't be able to use any PokéCoins.
When you purchase the ticket, you can buy one for yourself and gift a ticket to any of your Trainer friends. Gifting was added as a feature to Pokémon GO for the first time with the Alolan Geodude Community Day a couple of months ago. The ticket will be the same price for gifting, and like before, you can only use real currency instead of PokéCoins.
Most of the rewards in something like Field Notes: Starly are based on Pokémon you'll be able to get regardless. The Special Research will typically contain a couple of encounters of the featured Pokémon and its final evolutions. It makes getting better evolutions and candy easier, but they aren't required.
Regardless of whether you get the research or not, you'll have ample opportunity for a powerful or shiny Starly.
