Pokémon GO’s Lunar New Year event has officially begun in-game as Trainers globally celebrate the lunar occurrence with plenty of amazing festivities. From new wild encounters to themed Research activities, Darumaka, Buneary, and Bunnelby are spotlighted throughout its duration.
The event also marks the arrival of a new Mega Raid encounter as Lopunny returns to the game, signifying the start of the year of the Rabbit. With that being said, is there a chance to encounter Shiny Mega Lopunny in Pokémon GO?
Is There A Shiny Mega Lopunny In Pokémon GO?
Trainers looking to participate in the latest Mega Raid featuring the Normal-type Pokémon, Lopunny, will have the chance to encounter Shiny Mega Lopunny. This new Mega Raid encounter began in-game on 18th January 2023 at 10 am local time, coinciding with the ongoing Lunar New Year event.
You have until 25th January 2023 at 10 am local time to battle your Pokémon against Mega or Shiny Mega Lopunny, for which you can earn Premier Balls and Mega Energy. The latter depends on how quickly you can defeat Mega Lopunny in Mega Raids, which can be viewed on the Mega Raid summary screen.
As with previous Mega Raid battles, Mega Lopunny is significantly powered-up using Mega Energy which enhances their stats, including Combat Power (CP) and changes their typing. As Mega Lopunny will know Normal and Fighting-type attacks, you can counter them with Fairy, Fighting, Flying, and Psychic-type Pokémon like Latios / Mega Latios, Pidgeot / Mega Pidgeot, and Mewtwo according to Pokémon source, PokémonHub.
Additionally, Cloudy or Windy weather conditions could increase your chances of securing a Mega or Shiny Mega Lopunny; we advise tackling the Mega Pokémon in a group of three to five Trainers. If your counter Pokémon is the same typing as Lopunny, you can access its Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB), which further boosts its ATK damage.
Once you’ve finalized your party’s Raid line-up, all that’s left is to go head-to-head with Mega or Shiny Mega Lopunny but ensure you have enough Premier Balls to catch the Pokémon. Additionally, you can utilize Curveball Throws and Nanab Berries, Razz Berries, or Golden Razz Berries to better your chances of obtaining Mega or Shiny Mega Lopunny.
