With the Chespin Community Day now underway for Trainers globally, some players have reported a mysterious issue involving the game's PokéStops. While these structures are of great importance to the game, something seems to prevent them from using the PokéStop disc.
After initial reports dating back to December 2022, Trainers were delighted to discover that a new Pokémon, Kecleon, was to blame. As such, we've detailed everything about Kecleon's debut, including how to find and catch it in Pokémon GO.
8th January 2023 Update: A new developer blog from Niantic revealed that a Shiny Kecleon will be available to encounter during the Pokémon GO Tour: Hoenn – Las Vegas event. We'll endeavor to provide more updates once more reliable information is available.
How To Find Kecleon In Pokémon GO
Several Trainers reported online that they could not spin specific PokéStops on the in-game map to collect rewards and Research tasks. While some complained about their inability to spin the PokéStops, they discovered a chameleonic surprise when interacting with them.
One lucky Trainer posted to Twitter on 7th January 2023 what they discovered when interacting with a PokéStop. In the video shared by MasterWarlord, they found the color-changing Pokémon, Kecleon, can be spotted as it camouflages itself with its environments and changes positions to avoid being seen by Trainers.
If you receive an in-game prompt reading, "There's an invisible obstacle in your way. It's preventing you from collecting items…" you most likely have discovered the color-changing Pokémon. You'll need to continuously tap on Kecleon's position, which will move around on the PokéStop disc to reveal itself before it dashes away.
Once it's gone, you can collect your free items like Eggs and Gifts, encounter wild Pokémon or claim Field Research tasks from the PokéStop. But that's not the last time you will see Kecleon...
How To Catch Kecleon In Pokémon GO
After clearing Kecleon from the PokéStop disc and claiming items from them, Trainers will briefly return to the Map View. It will then direct you to a battle encounter with Kecleon, where you can catch the color-changing Pokémon.
As Kecleon is a Normal-type Pokémon, according to the official Pokédex information, it's weak to Fighting-type Pokémon. However, you can use a Poké Ball, a Razz Berry or Pinap Berry, and any throw to increase your chances of catching this elusive Pokémon.
Kecleon's in-game debut remains a mystery; however, it confirms information provided by PokeMiners, including adding coding, suggesting that Niantic was working on bringing Kecleon to Pokémon GO. The source commented on this reference that it indeed references Kelceon: "you'll see it when you start the encounter, then it turns invisible. Then when it attacks, it appears again during the animation and then fades away again."
While it's suggested that Kecleon only appears after the Chespin Community Day concludes, Trainers in other parts of the world will have to wait until after 5 pm local time to encounter it. In the meantime, lucky Trainers will look for Kecleon when spinning PokéStops, but no confirmation if a Shiny Kecleon can be encountered.
