The latest limited-time event, Festival of Lights, is currently underway in Pokémon GO, granting Trainers an opportunity to outshine each other and “strengthen bonds” with their Pokémon. With new gameplay content to explore, they can keep their eyes out for a few new illuminating friends exploring the wild at night.
Trainers can access the exclusive Timed Research until 17th October 2022 in-game, earning additional Pokémon encounters, rewards, and more. This guide details all the Timed Research challenges unveiled and the rewards earned for the Pokémon GO Festival of Lights event.
All Pokémon GO Festival of Lights Timed Research Tasks & Rewards
Credible Pokémon dataminer Serebii detailed the Timed Research challenges available to complete for the Festival of Lights event. These challenges are divided into two pages, whereby Trainers will need to complete the first page for the second to be unlocked and available.
The challenges will be available until 17th October 2022 at 8 pm local time, according to the event post from developer Niantic. We’ve detailed all the Timed Research tasks to complete and the rewards offered during the Festival of Lights event below:
Festival of Lights Timed Research (1/2)
- Catch 25 Pokémon: Poké Ball x25
- Hatch two Eggs: Morelul encounter
- Make 15 Nice Throws: Great Ball x20
- Make 10 Great Throws: Ultra Ball x10
- Make five Curveball Throws: Pinap Berry x10
- Use ten Berries to help catch Pokémon: Dedenne encounter
Festival of Lights Timed Research (2/2)
- Catch 25 Pokémon: Poké Ball x25
- Walk five kilometers: Golden Razz Berry x3
- Evolve three Pokémon: Chinchou encounter
- Make 10 Great Throws: Great Ball x20
- Spin 25 PokéStops/Gyms: Silver Pinap Berry x3
- Take snapshots of ten different wild Pokémon: Litwick encounter
Completing the first Timed Research task page in its entirety will award Trainers with 2,500 XP and an encounter with Galarian Ponyta. The second page of the Timed Research tasks will also grant 2,500 XP plus the promoted Sparkler Pose emote.

Accessing the Timed Research tasks can be achieved by navigating to the Today View hub from the Event page within Pokémon GO. Here, Trainers can view all the available Timed research tasks and claim the respective rewards once they’ve been completed.
Likewise, the event’s Field Research tasks can also be accessed from the Today View hub and browse the rewards each task offers.
