When it comes to a live service game like Overwatch 2, the game must be constantly patched to ensure it is balanced. Some characters tend to overperform while others tend to underperform over time. To ensure that all choices are viable, game developers balance creates patches to ensure that all characters feel fun but fair. This is especially true when games introduce new characters.
But oftentimes, game developers hit a character with a nerf too hard. This is precisely what happened to Sombra in Overwatch 2. Sombra was a premiere character in Season 1 of Overwatch 2 but now, she is borderline useless. That is why Blizzard developers have said they are currently working on making Sombra better in the future.
Is Blizzard Planning To Buff Sombra?
In Season 1, Sombra was the best assassin DPS in the game as she could easily access the backline and shred Tank units. However, she was doing too well and Blizzard had no choice but to hit her with nerfs. But Blizzard has done too much and now Sombra has a very low pick rate in Overwatch 2. However, that seems to be changing very soon.
Alec Dawson, a developer in Blizzard that works on Overwatch 2, has stated on Twitter that he is currently working on some changes for Sombra. However, he did not use the word buff which would normally indicate that her utility would not change but she would get stronger. It is likely that Blizzard is actually working on a rework for Sombra. A rework could indicate that the current Sombra will be what players will get for a longer-than-expected period.
When Will The Sombra Rework Launch In Overwatch 2?
When it comes to patches, reworks, nerfs, or any balance changes, it is important for players to know when it will happen. Although Sombra needs buffs right now to survive in the current meta of Overwatch 2, Sombra's reworks will not be done by the end of Season 3.
More than likely, Sombra's reworks will launch in Season 4 at the earliest. But even that is not guaranteed to happen. Either way, Overwatch 2 players will have to use Sombra as she currently is and will have to wait a couple of months before her rework will be finished.
