While Overwatch 2 offers plenty of content, nothing draws as much attention as the game’s highly detailed and thoughtfully animated skins and cosmetics. For fans of Overwatch League (OWL) history and the skins inspired by those periods, there's good and bad news ahead.

Blizzard will be bringing back the iconic and legendary OWL skins, giving players a chance to complete their collections. However, at the same time, they will be shutting down the Overwatch League Shop. So let’s dive into the details surrounding the return of these skins and the current state of the Overwatch League Shop in Overwatch 2.

According to Blizzard's announcement, Overwatch 2 will hold an un-vaulting period in the Overwatch League Shop from September 10 to October 18. During this time, they’ll be bringing back both new and legacy Overwatch League team skins, Overwatch League and Contenders Home and Away skins, along with other in-game items.

Some Legendary Overwatch League skins, like All-Star Genji, will also be unvaulted. Most of these skins will be available for OWL Tokens, but they will also be offered as bundles in the main shop, allowing players to purchase them with Overwatch 2 coins. Here’s a breakdown of the available skins:

  • September 10 – September 24: All-Stars Unvault Bundle featuring All-Star Mercy, All-Star Reinhardt, All-Star Lúcio, and All-Star D.Va
  • October 1 – October 8: Overwatch League Legends Mega Bundle with All-Star Tracer, All-Star Genji, Zen-Nakji Zenyatta, and Good and Evil Echo
  • October 8 – October 15: Overwatch League 2022 Tournament Bundle including Luchador Reaper, Royal Knight Mercy, Happi Genji, and Clockwork Zenyatta

While this is exciting news, the downside appears further into the blog post, where Blizzard states: "The Overwatch League Shop will remain open until at least December 2025... Upon any closure of the Overwatch League Shop, Overwatch League Tokens will be converted to an in-game Overwatch currency." This suggests the shop could be permanently closed, and any remaining Tokens will be converted to a different currency.

Although this isn’t confirmed yet, Blizzard also notes that "we’ll be sure to share those details as they become relevant, but the Overwatch League Token will no longer be sold after December 9, 2024." This means that once players run out of Tokens after that date, they won’t be able to buy these skins, potentially signaling the shop's eventual closure.

We’re hopeful that Blizzard might see enough success with this un-vaulting to consider another one in the future. For now, though, players are encouraged to collect their OWL skins while they still can, as they may not be available in Overwatch 2 forever.
