Classic Mode has brought back the excitement of Overwatch 1’s original playstyle and hero abilities, sparking discussions among players about features they wish were still part of Overwatch 2. One prominent example is the recent demand for Bastion’s ultimate ability from Overwatch 1 to replace his current one in OW2. Let’s dive into the details.
Players Believe Bastion's Tank Form Ultimate Should Replace His Current One in OW2
For those who haven’t played it yet, the Classic mode version of Bastion brings back the older iteration of the hero, complete with the Turret form that locks him in place, his self-repair ability, and, most notably right now, his Tank form ultimate. Many players seem to prefer this version of the ultimate compared to his current Artillery mode ultimate in Overwatch 2.
Bastion on live should have tank mode back. A far more interesting, fun, and skill expressive ult. There's nothing redeemable about artillery. It's just an uninteresting, boring ultimate. https://t.co/X5M3pRvwCx

As seen on X (formerly Twitter), many players, including popular Overwatch 2 streamers, have voiced their opinions that Bastion's current ultimate is boring and lacks the fun or tactical depth of his Tank form from Classic mode. "His current ult is so BORING. It makes no sense that they thought it was a good idea to replace tank form with it," wrote Twitch streamer Bogur.
These sentiments were echoed by commentator AVRL, who suggested that Bastion should get his Tank form back in Overwatch 2. "Bastion on live should have tank mode back. A far more interesting, fun, and skill-expressive ult. There’s nothing redeemable about artillery. It’s just an uninteresting, boring ultimate," he said.
Over on Reddit, other players also commented on how the current ultimate is unexciting and doesn't provide as many opportunities as the Tank form. The Tank ultimate allowed Bastion to move around the battlefield, secure big kills on supports, and act like a mini Tank hero capable of creating space.
In comparison, Bastion’s current ultimate doesn’t always pose a significant threat, especially against skilled players who can easily use their cooldowns to avoid the artillery or simply out-heal it (such as Roadhog using his vape or Kiriko’s Protection Suzu to negate the damage).
Blizzard changed Bastion’s ultimate for a reason, likely related to balancing in Overwatch 2, and his current ultimate better fits his role overall. However, with Bastion's pick rate being low in recent seasons, it may be worth considering bringing back his Tank form ultimate to breathe some life into the character and possibly shake up the meta.
