Season 14 of Overwatch 2 has kicked off with a big start, introducing Hazzard as the new Tank hero, along with tons of new cosmetics, a Mythic skin, and winter-themed events to celebrate the festive season. However, fans were eagerly awaiting the 6v6 tests. Thankfully, we now know exactly when these tests will begin (and it's sooner than you think) and what the role locking will look like for each test. Let’s break it down below.
Overwatch 2 6v6 Test Start Dates and Team Comp Limits
As seen on the official Overwatch 2 X account, a new video has dropped, revealing everything we need to know about the 6v6 coming in Season 14. There will be two separate tests with different role formats, so here are the details, including dates and roles:

6v6 Role Queue (Dec 17 - Jan 7):
- A 2-2-2 format, where each role allows for two heroes, and tanks will be tuned for 6v6 performance (though the specifics of this tuning are still unclear). Once a role is selected (e.g., Tank), players won’t be able to switch to a different role, only between different heroes in that role.
6v6 Min 1 - Max 3 (Jan 21 - Feb 4):
- Each role will only need one player, so you could end up with a 2-3-1 formation or any combination, as long as one role has one player and another has a maximum of three.
There may still be some details to be announced, such as the “tuning” for tanks in the Role Queue mode, but we’ll learn more soon, as the first test goes live tomorrow, December 17. We’ll be back to update you with more details and see you all in-game for the exciting 6v6 tests in Overwatch 2.
