MultiVersus reemerged from the aether as developer Player First Games and publisher Warner Bros. Games released a new trailer for the free-to-play fighting game. This latest trailer showcased all the available playable characters, but it appears they've added two more characters to the game.
The Launch trailer, aptly titled "Stars Collide. Pies Fly," showcased the current roster of characters, including the recently announced Banana Guard and The Joker, the latter of which is voiced by Mark Hamill. Two more characters appeared alongside the Clown Prince of Crime, bumping up the roster from 25 to 27 with horror icon Jason Voorhees and The Matrix villain Agent Smith joining the fray.
It has been an exciting yet busy couple of months for developer Player First Games since they "temporarily removed" MultiVersus from digital storefronts. The game, which had been in Open Beta until June 2023, reemerged on social media in March 2024, announcing a full release date of 28th May 2024 for console and PC.
At launch, the game will release its current playable roster, likely Jason Voorhees and Agent Smith, for which no update on their in-game pricing has been revealed. As we await confirmation on the releases of Jason Voorhees and Agent Smith for MultiVersus, it's likely that players can either spend Coins earned through in-game progression or acquired using Gleamium, as their values have yet to be determined.
Additionally, more stages from popular worlds that they "have yet to explore" will be added either at launch or post-launch, and various characters will have some new tricks up their sleeves as their combat mechanics have been revised and new abilities added "for each character."
Players enjoy brawling alongside and against other players in a newly rebuilt game to support the new netcode developer for MultiVersus. This includes a new PvE mode, Rifts, which the developer hopes will provide its player base with a new way of playing beyond its traditional PvP offerings and new rewards to earn.
MultiVersus will launch on 28th May 2024 for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games Store and Steam as a free-to-play title. Alongside its full release, Season 1 of MultiVersus and its new PvE mode, Rifts, will launch on the same day of 28th May 2024.
