Agents, we have reached the mid-season of MultiVersus' first season as a full gaming release, and the Age of the Machine is upon us. Developer Player First Games released their mid-season patch update for consoles and PCs, which includes new balance changes, adjustments, new content, and a new playable character.

The Matrix's Agent Smith, who first appeared in the Official Launch Trailer back in May 2024, will be available to unlock by clearing in-game content, allowing players to unlock this character early. Exactly which content is needed to unlock him early, as we've detailed in this guide on how to get Agent Smith in MultiVersus.

How To Unlock The Agent Smith Character In MultiVersus?

MultiVersus has officially entered the multiverse as a new playable character debut for the ongoing fighting game. The main antagonist, Agent Smith, from the action cyberpunk film series The Matrix, has descended into the multiverse, bringing his expert close-quarters fighting style, trusted weapons, and mind-bending movement skills, which players will have difficulty keeping up with.

There are a few ways that all players can unlock Agent Smith in MultiVersus, which the developer detailed in their mid-season patch notes. The first way to unlock and get Agent Smith is by completing "enough tiers" during the "Beat Rifts, Get Agent Smith Free!" event, where they can start unlocking as Agent Smith as of 8th July 2024.

Completing the Rifts event will require much grinding as they are to accumulate points for the character's event track, which can be done by defeating Bosses towards the end of particular  Rifts on their first attempt. It's important to mention that Bosses defeated on each difficulty for every Rift will count as their first attempt, as they will need to clear each difficulty to unlock subsequent Rift difficulties to earn more points, upgrade the Gems, and continue the progression.

However, should players not meet the prerequisite of completing "enough tiers" for the abovementioned event, Agent Smith will be available to acquire from 23rd July 2024. Players will then be able to utilize Fighter currency earned through the Account or Character Mastery, Battle Pass, completing events, and the Rifts PvE mode, which can be spent to unlock the character in-game.

Don't forget that participating in the  "Beat Rifts, Get Agent Smith Free!" event can see players earn unique and exclusive rewards that can't be found elsewhere in-game. Aside from the Fighter currency that is on offer for this event, they'll also be able to obtain an exclusive Agent Smith variant, which has yet to be revealed to the MultiVersus community, and as such, we'll update this guide to reflect the official reveal of the Agent Smith variant.
