G.I. Joe fans got a first look at the new incarnation of Snake Eyes during last night’s MTV Movie and TV Awards, with the first trailer setting up the character’s origin.
The teaser kicks off with an unseen character stating “Every warrior has a beginning…” before another voice claims that the ninja has brought peace to the world for 600 years, and now need a warrior like Snake Eyes to continue that work.
What follows is quick cuts of action and combat, the centrepiece being a night-time chase that involves cars, motorbikes, swords, and machine guns.
The official synopsis describes Snake Eyes as “a tenacious loner who is welcomed into an ancient Japanese clan called the Arashikage after saving the life of their heir apparent. Upon arrival in Japan, the Arashikage teach Snake Eyes the way of the ninja warrior while also providing something he’s been longing for: a home. But when secrets from his past are revealed, Snake Eyes’ honour and allegiances will be tested – even if that means losing the trust of those closest to him.”
