Hannah John-Kamen has been cast in the forthcoming sword and sorcery movie Red Sonja. The actress – who played Ghost in Ant-Man and the Wasp – beat fierce competition to land the coveted role.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be directed by Joey Soloway – who wrote, produced and directed the TV series Transparent. Soloway is collaborating with Tasha Huo on the script.
“Hannah is a very talented actress who we’ve been following for years and she IS Red Sonja” Soloway said in a statement. “Her range, sensibilities and strength are all qualities we have been looking for and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this journey together.”

Red Sonja was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor Smith and first appeared in the pages of Marvel Comics in 1973. Brigitte Nielsen played the character in the 1985 movie of the same name, while there have been several attempts to adapt the source material since then, with Robert Rodriguez and Rose McGowan trying in 2008, and Bryan Singer coming close in 2018 until controversy engulfed that version.
Hannah John-Kamen appeared on British TV in the likes of The Hour, Happy Valley, The Tunnel and Killjoys before making the leap to movies via Tomb Raider and Ready Player One. She’ll next be seen playing Jill Valentine in the video game adaptation Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City.
